When the Confederate Army needed artillery, ammunition, or other weaponry, it turned to

Richmond's famous ironworks in the heart of  the city. Many of the original buildings were lost to war and time but some remain. One, in fact, serves s as a Civil War Visitor Center.

The Historic James River runs through the city of Richmond to Jamestown where it was authentically used for filming the movie, The New World, starring Colin Farrell as Captain John Smith and Christian Bale as John Rolfe

The George Washington Equestrian

Statue. Unveiled in 1858, Confederate

President Jefferson Davis gave his

inaugural speech in front of the statue

in 1861. At the close of the Civil War

President Abraham Lincoln visited

Richmond and gave an impromptu

speech in front of  the statue to recently

freed African Americans shortly before

he was assassinated on April 1865. A

must see if you visit Richmond.
